Yes, you read that correctly. A three thousand brake horsepower Vauxhall (Opel to our non-UK readers). Has the world gone mad? Read on and see…
Don’t worry, Vauxhall haven’t lost their minds completely and tuned a Corsa VXR to the point of the engine exploding. A partnership has been announced between Vauxhall Motors and the Redvictor1 Racing Team to support the MSA Pro Modified campaign with the new Redvictor 3 Street Legal Pro modified Car. The team will be running under the VXR banner to promote the flagship Vauxhall performance range with, what will be again, the fastest road going Vauxhall on Planet Earth!
The team currently capaigns with red Victor 2, a 1972 Vauxhall VX4/90 FD which originally came with a 104hp 2000cc 4 cylinder engine. The engine in it now is a little bigger though. It runs an 8.8 litre Chevy V8, with two turbos putting out a scarcely believable 3000bhp. What is even more impressive is that this car runs in the ‘street legal’ class, whcih means it has an MOT, road tax and number plates.
Development is still ongoing, but the team expects RV3 to be able to get to a speed of 240mph within a quarter of a mile from standing. It is expected to take just 6.5sec to cover this distance.
The team’s last project, Red Victor 2, reached almost 200mph over a quarter of a mile from standing, getting from 0-153mph in just 4.8sec.
Team Principal Andy Frost said ” We are very happy and proud to announce a partnership with this great company. Over the years we have worked hard to promote the team, along with the Vauxhall name, to a worldwide audience, and feel this recognition is a fantastic gesture and reward for that effort. We are looking forward to working with Vauxhall in promoting the VXR brand as synonymous with superlative high performance vehicles. Andy and the team would like to extend their gratitude to Vauxhall for their faith and support in this venture.
Stuart Harris of Vauxhall said “We watched with admiration at what Andy was able to achieve with the original Red Victor and when the opportunity came to help in the new project we leapt at the chance”
The new car is on schedule to be completed early next year and is currently at the rolling chassis stage at the Webster Race Engineering workshop.
