Just 24hrs after the news of Bugatti’s record breaking 268mph run, a US-based company claim they will be the first to hit 300mph…
The Dagger GT has over-the-top ambitions of becoming the most sinister production car ever built. Only five will be manufactured in 2011 and all but two have been pre-sold. U.S. based TranStar Racing says its design is based on the Corvette Cheetah concept and vows to break every major record, from being the fastest on a straight line to being the quickest around the Nurburgring.
But what credentials does it bring to the fore? For starters, TransStar Racing lists a “who’s who” of U.S. auto industry veterans. From award winning engineers and race car builders to NASA aerodynamicists and the designer of the Saleen S7, the TranStar team reaches into almost every corner.
From our point of view, the Dagger GT certainly looks the part. It has a real air of ‘proper supercar’ about it. Swoops, curves, slashes, ducts, it has everything.
For hardware, TranStar proposes a 572 multifuel (petrol/methanol/hydrogen/ethanol) twin turbo racing unit from Nelson Racing Engines (builders of the 1800hp Mosler Red Devil) which is capable of spewing out a seemingly insurmountable 2,000 bhp (1,491 kW / 2,028 PS). Peak torque is said to be 2,710Nm (2,000 lb-ft) running through a TranStar/Mendeola 6-speed transmission.
Expected performance figures are equally astounding: 0-60 mph in 1.5 seconds, quarter mile in less than 6.7 seconds and a top speed of over 300mph (483 km/h). The outer body is made from carbon fibre, while a high-strength 4130 Chromoly Steel chassis forms the inner structure.
Three different models can be ordered: a hard-core racer, a street-legal sport version and a soft-riding luxurious GT-X that combines both speed and comfort.
Following the first five contract units, sales will begin during the first half of 2011 for 10 units to be delivered in 2012 and each car is priced at a minimum of US$450,000 (€360,000).
Press Release:
The 2000 horsepower, 300 mph Dagger GT by TranStar Racing, LLC
Join the rebellion!
It’s time to smile and have fun again! “Extreme” is back! The 2000 hp, 300 mph Dagger GT’s design objectives are to be the best-looking, fastest Supercar in the world. This Supercar is being specially designed, very deliberately and explicitly, to break all world records and to bring back the most popular class of race car: the unlimited class which has been regulated, restricted and compromised into extinction. Join the rebellion as we break every rule there is, and break every world record for production Supercars. We will not quit until we achieve these goals:
- Top horsepower/torque: 2000 hp/2000 ft lbs (given)
- Top Speed: 300 mph, plus
- Quarter mile: 200 mph and < 6.7 seconds
- 0 to 60 mph: < 1.5 seconds
- Lap records at: Nurburgring and Virginia International Raceway.
Each Dagger GT will be carefully hand-made by exceptional, enthusiastic craftsmen. Each car will be custom-made to the owner’s preferences and desires. You can order: one of three (3) hard-core racing models; a street-legal comfortable-riding sport model, or a soft-riding, luxurious GT-X model that looks and feels like a million-dollar car, but runs like a bat-out-of-hell. We plan to deliver 5 production Daggers in 2011. Each Dagger will be 49-state street-legal if desired by the buyer.
The base MSRP of the Dagger GT-S or “Sport” model is $450,000 plus custom work, if requested. Deliveries are scheduled beginning in the first half of 2011. Production is very limited to maintain exceptional, over-the-top quality and fine craftsmanship. We have 2 more sales to go before we close out our 2011 production allotment of five (5) units. After the first five units are under contract, we will begin negotiating purchase orders for 10 units to be delivered in 2012.
The Dagger GT is based on an exceptional mid-engine concept car, the Corvette Cheetah, created by the brilliant industrial designer, Ivan Luccion. Our consulting lead designer is Phil Frank, designer of the world record-setting Saleen S7 Supercar which recently won the 24 hours of LeMans. Each Dagger GT is custom-made from 100% proven, guaranteed, off-the-shelf racing components and hand-built to the highest standards by experienced, exceptional supercar craftsmen. The car features an over-the-top big block, 2000 hp aluminum, twin turbo 572 multifuel racing engine, routinely built by Nelson Racing Engines. The engine is also “streetable.” A custom TranStar/Mendeola 6-speed transaxle geared to 308 mph is also featured. The transaxle is designed to withstand the 2000 foot-pounds of torque delivered by the engine. The Dagger GT also features a high-strength 4130 Chromoly Steel chassis. A space-age carbon fiber body will be fabricated by the aerospace industry.
Okay, so it’s currently just a few CAD renderings and some fanciful ideas. But can you just imagine? 300mph. Three Hundred Miles Per Hour. That means you would be covering 135 metres per second. Best not to blink or sneeze then!
So what do you think? Will it make 300mph? Will it even be built? Leave your comments below and let us know…

Can this get over a speedbump – ummm….?
Dont care about the speed bumps, get me on the motorway or on the track, hope it is made.
Lovely looking car but still prefer the Bugatti
The claimed 1/4 mile time is ridiculous even if the thing could get somewhere near 300 on a perfectly smooth 25 mile piece of tarmac in a vacuum.
Its quite clear that the “designers” have looked at what is possible in drag racing with 2000 hp and simply said “ooh we can do that”, when the simple fact is that the whole configuration of the car is not fit for that purpose. For starters, where they’re going to put the 36″x17″x16″ slicks god knows and it will take that sort of footprint to run down into the 6′s. Of course it will then also need to transmit all of the torque that that footprint can stick to the track through a drivetrain designed specifically for that purpose. If they actually get the thing built and it ever runs into the 8′s I’ll be amazed, never mind a 6.7 @ 200mph.
Its a supcar, 99.9% of them can’t go over speed bumps. If the yanks pull it off it will be awsome.
This car is stupid. Bugatti set the benchmark with the Veyron, and the Americans are trying so hard to create a faster car. 300 mph? Give me a break. The tyres will not last past 260.
I’ve also heard this car is RWD, so that makes the 0-60 time of 1.5 impossible. AND its a convertible, so handling won’t be very good.
If this car does live up to expectations, i’ll amputate my arms.
Hmmm, sexy thing.
A “low power” 1000 bhp version which runs with standard 98/100 octane fuel and an engine which does not require a full service every 1000 miles would be a nice option for the “comfy” version.
Considering the chassis, transmission and weight it should be still good enough for a top ranked supercar… And usable besides the racetrack or a collectors garage…
Anyway: Build that thing and become a legend! I have my doubts though, if they can deliver what they promise, considering the trouble Bugatti had for years to get the Veyron going and make it a reliable car.
Well lets be honest the yanks have never really been gr8 with sports cars but lets see what comes out[talk is cheap]!!
Quarter mile: 200 mph and < 6.7 seconds.
I just womder how much fuel this would use going that fast over such a short distance.
I bet it would run my trusty Lambretta for a couple of months
P.s if it hit a speed bump at 300mph i but there would be a few aircraft scrambled from the local airbase.
As ambitious as the claims may be, I applaud the pursuit of dreams. Good luck to the team – I hope they see this through to reality.
Wow what a dream machine, chuck me the keys and give me a clear flight path.

Okay from what i just read they are attempting to build a car that will outrun any previously built car before it. In essence a Mclaren F1 of the 21st century. Okay let me break this thing apart. We can not compare this car or concept car at the moment. To the Bugatti Veyron in anyway shape or form. The Bugatti Veyron was purpose built for luxury, comfort, then speed. It strived to be the fastest luxury car on the market and it succeeded. So no this car is in a whole different breed of the super world. This belongs side the Mclaren F1, Koenigsegg CCX and Agera, Shebly Super Cars Ultimate Aero, and Saleen S7. All cars with a rear wheel drive setup that are pushing the 200mph barrier at the bugatti’s heels. This breed is focused on speed and only on that. Not comfort, so now that we have established that lets look at the specs 0-60 in 1.5 seconds seems impossible but it could be done with extra soft extremely wide tires to transmit the power. The real problem lies with the transmission and transaxle. I spent 3 hours of my important life doing research into their transmission only to find it doesn’t exist. The strongest transmission that mendeola produces is only capable of handling horsepower in the low to possibly mid 1000′s and that is pushing the transmission way into it uncomfort zone. The next problem is the open top roadster design, which is nice to look at in a computer rendering and standing still in a garage or parking lot somewhere but down right horrible to drive very fast with. After being in many roadsters my self and taking them as close to 200 as I could i can tell you its is no where near as fun as being in a fully inclosed cabin. The wind at a 100mph is nice but abit forcefully refreshing. But at 160 mph the wind is untollerable and just keeping your eyes open becomes a tiring chore. Mind you 200 wound be unbearable and at 260 nigh impossible. The 2000hp claim is easily possible if their supplier is Nelson but with that type of engine provides extreme heat that would need to be removed rather quickly. Also dispite the hp levels of the big 572 is rather heavy, and that is a big problem in the anorexic world of supercars. All in all the car shows some promise of greatness but is majorly flawed by problems that they seem to not have worked out completely let. Given another 2 to 3 years their could very well be a Dagger GT driving the roads and leaving Bugattis in the distance on the autobahn as the driver smirks at his new found joy; of putting the world into rewind, by the push of a pedal. But as of right now they need to close their mouths put their heads together and slowly work their mechanical challenges out before proclaiming to the world they have the fastest car in the world. No insult intended to Transtar Racing but as of right now they do not have a working model, a video, an actual picture, or a single piece of evidence that an actual model may actually be running on it’s on power. So Transtar Racing if you want to defeat Bugatti Tear a page from Shelby Supercar’s book and build it before spouting out big numbers. IF you work extremely hard I’m sure you can produce this amazing machine you dreamt up. Besides who ever thought man would fly in the sky and walk on the moon or go 268mph in a luxury car. Lets see the next great achievement.
Wow, great comment AKIA!
